United Asian Network held a vibrant, visionary and victorious youth forum event on Saturday 3rd February 2024 at the former J’s restaurant, Waiyaki Way. Youth between the ages 18 and 35 came from all different communities and universities or colleges
The Design Thinking Workshop was an initiative from the UAN Youth Forum Chair, Mr. Aneez Rahemtulla and UAN’s Economic Connector Pillar’s co-lead, Sheena Raikundalia to give them an opportunity to hear from these young adults navigating a thinking world.
The UAN Board was delighted to hear the feedback from the aspirational leaders on their challenges including the state of the economy, governance ethics, financial difficulties, career dilemmas, insipid entrepreneurship spirit, social media and mental health disparities. The workshop was divided into two sessions, the first being about the problem statement and the second being solutions from the youth themselves.
The interactive session was highly interesting and effective in evoking the interest to be a part of a networking platform that can activate solutions to their challenges and provoke their interests among the older age group and larger community.
If Elon Musk inspired many, then so did Mr. Patrick Lumumba and the awareness that the Asian community has a fairly influential and wealthy group of leaders was inspiring. They definitely are seeking audience for mentorship from their predecessors.
Through the Youth Forum and Economic Pillar, UAN will strive to connect them to a mentorship and personal development programme. In line with our other pillars of Social Harmony, youth are looking forward to shared success such as Festival of Friendship and through Asian Identity Pillar, they want to discuss identity crisis and finally through National Engagement, they want to participate mindfully because a small positive can help reduce bigger negatives long-term.
“United Asian Network (UAN) is a not-for-profit and a non-political organisation formed to act as an umbrella think-tank and facilitator of cross-community collaboration of the Asian Community in Kenya, comprising Asians having their roots in Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka that have chosen Kenya as their home. UAN will deliver its mandate through four pillars being the Economic Connector, Asian Identity, National Engagement and Social Harmony focusing on the Community and Kenya at large.”
There will be further engagements and forums to address their specific issues in the near future but the start of a WhatsApp Youth Group will drive communication with them going henceforth.
